Ticket information
It may still seem a long time before the Rio games start in 2016 – but if you want to secure your tickets you will need to plan ahead.
Tickets for the Rio Olympics are expected to be available to the public in May 2015. However, if you are looking to secure tickets for you, your family or your friends, you should already now sign up with one of the official ticket vendors. You will then be notified of the actual release date well in advance.
7 million tickets are expected to be made available to the public. A large number of the tickets will be affordably priced, in order to allow low income Brazilians to participate in this landmark event.
Out of town visitors may want to opt for a “hotel and ticket” package. This will usually include accommodation, transportation to and from the venues and tickets. Such packages are available both through hotels and tour operators. Be aware, however, that most hotels are not registered as tour operators nor are they acting as official ticket agents. This may offer less protection against fraud.
IMPORTANT: No ticket agent, tour operator, hotel or any other third party can guarantee ticket availability at this stage. You should therefore threat with suspicion any offer for tickets for specific events prior to the official ticket release date. Any guarantee will, at best, be for a full or partial refund of the purchase price.
Regretfully ticket demand for certain events is expected to exceed availability. A certain degree of flexibility is recommended and we suggest you consider applying for tickets for more than one even.
